It’s impossible to forget my lessons with Noel McRobbie. Before studying with him, I wasn’t used to handling each note with such care, but he taught me how to listen and value every sound with detail. Also, he is always warm and encouraging.

Do Young Song

Artist Diploma, Vancouver Academy of Music

Dr. Noel McRobbie was my professor during my junior undergraduate and graduate studies at Dongduk Women’s University, Seoul, South Korea. He was my first foreign professor, and despite my struggles with English at the time, I never had any issues during our lessons. Dr. McRobbie was incredibly considerate and patient. His demonstrations were especially helpful when I struggled to understand his explanations.

His passion for teaching was evident; he often dedicated extra hours for lessons when he had free time. Thanks to his guidance, I was able to address my technical issues and build a solid foundation in piano. He encouraged me to explore longer phrases and express my feelings about the repertoire, and he taught me to take my career seriously.

Whenever I didn’t practice enough, he was quick to notice and would share personal stories or examples to give me a wake-up call. Additionally, he introduced me to various opportunities for pursuing a master’s and doctorate in the United States. Thanks to his support, I received a full tuition waiver, teaching assistantship, and living stipend, as well as an insurance waiver for my master’s degree.

Even now, he continues to advise me and write recommendations on my behalf. Because of his support, I successfully completed my doctorate at FSU and secured a job at TCC in Texas. Anyone fortunate enough to have Dr. McRobbie as a piano teacher will greatly appreciate his teaching and mentorship.
